Dear Commissioner Gladstone:
Following the completion of the Ripples Group’s report on MCI-Framingham, we request that DCAMM release the report immediately to the Legislature. As members of the Massachusetts General Court, we are committed to upholding the health, safety, and human rights of people incarcerated within Massachusetts correctional facilities, many of whom are constituents from our districts. Anticipation of the report is preventing the Legislature from considering policies that could improve the health and wellbeing of women incarcerated at MCI-Framingham and we require transparency in your analysis to resume delayed action.
Given that the report is paid for with public funds, it is clear that the issues at hand extend well into our communities and have implications for many of our constituents. As we continue to work towards improving the Commonwealth’s criminal justice system, it is imperative that our conversations and actions are informed by up-to-date research. We appreciate your prompt attention to our concerns and please do not hesitate to contact either of our offices with any questions.
