About the Caucus

Our Mission.

The Criminal Justice Reform Caucus consists of legislators who are working collaboratively to address the root causes and symptoms of mass incarceration through comprehensive policy reforms, education, and by building coalitions.

Our History.

The Caucus was established in 2013 by Representative Sannicandro and Senator Eldridge. During the early stages of the Caucus, the majority of legislators were not familiar with the term “mass incarceration” or how the system of mass incarceration interacted with substance use and drug law.

The goal of the Caucus was to not only illuminate these issues of injustices, but to show how they are interconnected with racial and economic inequalities. The Caucus developed to intentionally focus on reforming criminal justice issues through comprehensive and intersectional frameworks.
